Determining the Relationship between Teachers’ Technological Competencies and their Performance at University Level

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the teachers’ technological competencies and their performance at higher education. The teachers’ technological competencies were measured in six elements of technology naming perceptions of teachers about using technology, technological knowledge of teachers, perceived ease of use of technology, perceived usefulness of technology and skills of teachers in using technology. The performance of teachers for using technology in teaching and learning process was also determined. The study consisted of two samples one form the teachers of the six social sciences departments of the six public universities of the southern Punjab and other sample was the students of 6th, 7th and 8th semesters of the six social sciences departments of the six public universities of southern Punjab, Pakistan. The samples size consisted of 497 teachers and 611 students. The samples were selected by using the stratified random sampling technique. Two questionnaires one for teachers and other for students were adopted form the literature to collect the data from the samples. The collected data was analysed by using SPSS-25. Frequency distribution, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis was done to find the results of the study. The finds of the study indicated that most of the teachers of the social sciences departments of the public universities of southern Punjab have lack of technological competencies and their performance was not so much good. The results also indicated a low positive correlation between teachers’ technological competencies and their performance at higher education level. Some serious steps are required to improve the technological competencies and performance of teachers at higher education level.
